Welcome to Seņora Tamara Batcha's Spanish Class

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! This is Señora Tamara's webpage for beginning Spanish at The Children's House. Our school offers instruction in Spanish for grades 1 through 6 and is delivered using TPR and TPRS methods. For more information please visit www.blaineraytprs.com, www.susangrosstprs.com and www.benslavic.com. I have trained with both Susan and Ben in the last two years. I firmly believe these methods assist in greater acquisition of a language other than English and I hope that my students, after leaving The Children's House and having Spanish for 5-6 years will be able to test out of their first year of Spanish at the Middle School or High School level. You should be aware that the State of Michigan has enacted new guidelines for graduation beginning with the class of 2016. Your student will have to take 2 credits of a language other than English, or prove proficiency in a language at the 'high novice' level. While my program is only in it's second year, I am very pleased with the progress of our students. I believe in two or three more years, that perhaps our first student may be able to test out of first year Spanish. Thank you to The Children's House community for encouraging students to learn about a new culture, history, and language. You're helping to create young adults who will be equipped with a valuable skill, and better able to function in an ever-expanding global economy.

Enrichment activities: Please visit TCH library shelves for a selection of children's books in Spanish. There are also alphabet pronunciation guides available on the Spanish cart for parents who may have had some high school Spanish. It will help refresh your memory, and aid in correct pronunciation while reading.

You may also wish to try either of these two websites for your student at home:
http://www.languagesonline.org.uk Click on Español, and then choose Caminos Book 1. Hola, numbers, is a good place to begin. You may continue with any unit of study you desire to pursue. ¡Buena suerte!
http://www.storyplace.org/ Click on either the English or Español version to play mini-games in matching, or read stories. If you do the English first, the Spanish version will be a little easier (especially for younger ages). Elder students may wish to jump right in with the Spanish! Good luck!
